Management Team

Shami PatelChief Executive Officer
Shami Patel is the CEO of LumiGrow and has over 18 years of experience as a senior executive and investor in high growth private and public companies. Prior to joining LumiGrow, he was a partner at Pacific View Ventures and Clean Pacific Ventures, both early stage venture capital firms focused on clean resources investments in energy, agriculture and water. His operational experience includes serving as COO of Alesco Financial (NYSE: AFN), CFO of TRM Corp (NASDQ: TRMM) and CEO of (Acquired by NCR Corp). Shami has also served on numerous corporate and non-profit boards like Fintech Acquisition Corp (NASDQ: FNTC), Golden Pacific Bancorp and Duke University Law School. Shami received his BA in philosophy and economics from Trinity University and JD/MBA with honors from Duke University.
David LittletonExecutive Vice President of Operations, Manufacturing & Product Development
David Littleton is the Executive Vice President of Operations, Product Development and Manufacturing of LumiGrow, with over 25+ years of experience in transforming emerging fast paced disruptive technologies into profitable commercialized global products and services. Recently he has held key executive positions in Product Development/Engineering, Operations and Global Manucturing/Supply Chain at startups such as Autonet Mobile, Alivecore, Zep Solar and Solar City. Previous to this, he had a long tenure at the prestigious design firm IDEO, developing and implementing human centered, design based solutions/products/services for fortune 500 and high growth startups.
Dr. Melanie YeltonVice President of Research
As head of the LumiGrow research program, Melanie leads the entire horticultural lighting industry forward in discovering new ways to elicit desirable crop characteristics through the use of LEDs. Prior to joining LumiGrow, Melanie served as a lecturer and research scientist at Stanford University. Melanie completed a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellowship in microbial signaling between Rhizobium and alfalfa at Stanford University. She earned a Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of California, Davis, where her work focused on plant pathogens. She holds an M.S. in the biochemistry of photosynthesis from the University of South Carolina, Columbia and a B.S. in biology from Virginia Tech. The recipient of numerous academic awards and accolades, Melanie is a patent holder for her work involving filamentous fungus such as Aspergillus strains. Earlier in her career, she served as director of sequencing at the Stanford DNA Sequence and Technology Center, a division of the Human Genome Project.
Jay Albere IIVice President of Sales
Jay Albere is the VP of Sales of LumiGrow and has over 16 years of experience in the lighting industry. Prior to joining LumiGrow Jay was the Regional VP of Sales for Eaton Lighting managing $220 million in annual revenue. Before joining Eaton, Jay spent 13 years at General Electric in a variety of roles managing sales teams and helping customers save energy through energy efficient lighting. Jay received his BS in Finance from Northeastern University in Boston, MA and his MBA from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA.
Morganne BeckVice President of Finance
Morganne Beck is the VP of Finance of LumiGrow and brings 10+ years of experience growing successful companies in the tech start-up space. With extensive experience as a Finance and HR department lead, Morganne is talented at accelerating efficiencies across all departments allowing for optimal growth. She brings a detailed understanding of organizational minutiae to LumiGrow, and excels at streamlining operating procedures to adhere to industry best-practices. Morganne holds a BA in Political Science from U.C. San Diego and a MA in Financial Economics from American University.

Dave HerronBoard Member
Mr. Herron was a Vice President and group manager for Robertson Stephens’ Energy Technology investment banking practice, which focused on companies involved in distributed generation, power quality and reliability, and advanced materials. Prior to that, he was a Senior Vice President at Van Kasper & Co. (now Wells Fargo Securities), where he worked on numerous transactions for environmental services and technology companies serving the solid, liquid, hazardous and radioactive waste markets. Dave currently sits on the board of portfolio companies SunLink, Wireless Glue Networks and The Renewables Exchange. Dave received a BA in English from U.C. Berkeley and an MBA from the University of Michigan.
Devin WhatleyBoard Member
Devin Whatley is a partner at the Ecosystem Integrity Fund, and leads deal structuring and negotiations, assists with the fund strategy, and is also responsible for much of the firm’s financial and operations-focused due diligence. Given his background, Devin is actively involved with the management and oversight of the Ecosystem Integrity Fund’s portfolio companies. He serves as a director on the boards of KeVita, Synova, OneEnergy Renewables, Complete Solar, and GLUKOS. He is or has been an observer on the boards of Zep Solar, Clean Fund, iVeridis, and SynchroNet.

Devin’s background is as a sustainability-focused entrepreneur, with significant experience in operations, sales, and finance. He began his career in the film business, where he developed and honed his operations and cost-management skills as the producer of more than 50 large-budget commercials and music videos. During this time he nurtured a growing fascination for environmental sustainability, and became a passionate student of green business.

Looking for a way to use his diverse skill set as a “triple-bottom-line” entrepreneur, in 2000 Devin launched a gourmet, organic home delivery and packaged food business that catered to the Hollywood elite. From an initial $10,000 investment, Devin rapidly grew the firm, exiting it within three years to a larger natural food manufacturer in the region. Subsequently, Devin was the general manager of a start-up organic winery that he grew to profitability, and also developed and ran a luxury yoga retreat business near Santa Barbara.

After a brief stint at his family’s award-winning mutual fund where he worked with the investment team and institutional sales group, Devin became a partner at Aquillian Investments and subsequently at the Ecosystem Integrity Fund.

Devin is a CFA Charterholder, and has an MBA from Wharton. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from UCLA’s Honors Division where he was both an Alumni Scholar and Regents’ Scholar, earning a joint degree in Business and East Asian Studies.

James EverettBoard Member
James Everett is a partner at the Ecosystem Integrity Fund, where he leads the investment team. His responsibilities include setting strategy, leading research, overseeing the investment due diligence process, and generating deal flow. James is also actively involved in the ongoing management of the fund’s investments, and currently serves or has served as a director on the boards of Zep Solar, Clean Fund, T-Rex, SynchroNet, and iVeridis. He is a board observer at Synova, OneEnergy Renewables, and Complete Solar.

James has been a student of sustainability for more than 20 years. During that time he has held a range of professional positions related to conservation, natural resources, and investment analysis.

Before co-founding the Ecosystem Integrity Fund, James served as Director of Research and then Partner at Aquillian Investments beginning in early 2007. At Aquillian, James led all investment research, due diligence and strategy development. Prior to joining Aquillian, he was Conservation Finance Manager for the Pacific Forest Trust where he conducted financial analysis of forestland acquisition opportunities and led marketing of carbon offsets generated from sustainable forest management. James managed integrated conservation and development projects as a Natural Resource Management Specialist for the World Conservation Union in Iran. Previously, James worked in commercial finance with GATX Capital, where he conducted financial analysis and due diligence on investments in rail, air, marine, distributed power generation, telecommunications, and natural resources.

James has also worked in timberland investment and management with Wagner Forest Management; led a research and demonstration center for sustainable and renewable technologies; worked for a photovoltaic systems integrator on installation of some of the first grid-tied PV systems in the San Francisco Bay Area; and has run his own arboricultural consulting business. He is additionally an ISA-certified arborist, and has been a passionate organic gardener and naturalist since early childhood.

James holds a Master of Forestry degree from Yale University and a BS in Environmental Policy and Management from Humboldt State University; he also completed the UC Berkeley Venture Capital Executive Program.

Mr. Shami J. Patel, JD is a Venture Partner at Clean Pacific Ventures Management LLC. Mr. Patel has been involved as an investor and operator of nine high growth companies both at the early through public stages. He is a member of the Board at Duke University Law School where he is a Senior Lecturing Fellow. He is also Treasurer, on the Board of Trustees, and Member of the Board of the Seven Hills School. He served as a Director of Security Pacific Bank. and Gold Country Bank. He served as a Member of the Board of Directors of Corp. from 2000 to 2002. Mr. Patel is a private investor in the financial services sector. Mr. Patel holds an M.B.A. from Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, a J.D. from Duke University School of Law, and a B.A. in Economics and Philosophy from Trinity University.
